Central Government restores free ration for defence officers in peace areas

In 2017, Government withdrew the facility of free ration in peace areas. The move met with sharp criticism with the armed forces. After 2 years, government restores the ‘ration in kind’ provision to military officers in peace areas.

The facility was withdrawn by the government in 2017 and it started paying a certain amount in instead of the ration to defence personnel.

“The Government of India has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Defence for restoration of the ‘ration in kind’ to the defence officers posted in peace areas,” a defence official said.

The decision to withdraw the provision didn’t go well in several quarters across the three services of the armed forces. This move is a correction move for the blunder the government committed 2 years ago.
