Li’l Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter V’ Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200

Better late then never album ‘Tha Carter V’ by Li’l Wayne is smashing all the records. It topped the Billboard 200 chart. Further, Tha Carter V also opens with the second-biggest streaming week ever for an album, with 433 million on-demand audio streams logged for its songs in its first week.

Tha Carter V was released on 28th September via Young Money/Republic Records. The album first made ripples and then waves and finally tremors with 480,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 4. That sum is the third-largest week for an album in 2018.

This is Li’l Wayne’s 4th leader on the Billboard 200. He previously topped the tally with Tha Carter IV (two weeks at No. 1 in 2011), I Am Not a Human Being (one week at No. 1 in 2010) and Tha Carter III (three weeks at No. 1, 2008). In total, Tha Carter V is Lil Wayne’s 15th entry on the list and 11th top 10.

The New Orleans rapper, who initially announced the album’s release back in 2012, just unveiled the highly-anticipated project after facing several delays due to a years-long legal battle with Birdman, CEO of Cash Money Records. The two — along with Universal Music Group — finally reached an eight-figure settlement in court this summer, and Wayne was released from his contract with Cash Money.
