In a recent news coming from the northern troubled frontiers of India, five
civilians have been killed in pakistani Shelling in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. It has caused enough chaos already, and authorities have turned their numb ( from shelling) ears to it. But amidst all these serious events happening, it seems like Farooq Abdullah got away with another controversial statement.
Mr. Abdullah, who is the father of former CM Umar Abdullah and the face of the National Conference, said on Saturday that the line of control (LOC) will
eventually settle as international border between India and Pakistan. He added that India will not be able to annex the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK), and similarly Pakistan will fail to have India’s share of Kashmir, therefore the LOC will eventually be accepted bas international border. He further remarked at the Zee India Conclave ( which he was attending) that the Kashmir issue will be resolved. But for that India will have to accept POK, and realise it that they are not going to be able to take that back.
It is to be remembered that POK is the region of Kashmir occupied by Pakistan, over which India always had contestations and conflicts with our neighbour. With a controversy already existent, Farooq Abdullah’s remark seems to be tinkering with the hot metal. Also, his comment seems to be less heard due to the noise of continuous firing from Pakistan’s side. It remains to be seen how the media and people further react on this controversial simplification of such a complex and layered debate on Kashmir.
