Subramaniam Jaishankar : sworn-in as Union Minister

Subramanyam Jaishankar, a Ph.D. scholar in international relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University, a Master’s degree in political science and international relations and a graduate from Delhi University’s St. Stephen’s College was sworn as a union minister in Prime Minister’s cabinet.

He served as a former India ambassador to the U.S. foreign secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. The biggest hallmark for Subramaniam Swami is that he serves as the chief architect of the India-US nuclear deal. He is also someone who has great relationships with the US and with the Chinese after serving as Beijing ambassador. It was in the year 2015 when Jaishankar took over Foreign Secretary in January after a stint at Washington DC as India’s delegate and made sure a successful visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US.

For his tenure in Beijing and as India’s Ambassador in the same, administered the issue of stapled visa for Indian citizens from Arunachal Pradesh. Also, he wheeled the response to the 73-day Doklam stands off in 2017. He is also an awardee of Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian award for his high civil decoration of the Indian state for his services in 2019.
