The Chief Judicial Magistrate on Thursday lodges an FIR against 50 celebrities including Mani Ratnam, Aparna Sen, Ramchandra Guha and many others in a row. They wrote to the Prime Minister over concerns regarding mob lynching.

“We are anxious about the state our country is in today. All over India, people are being lynched, why people of different faiths are being forced to say ‘Jai Shri Ram'” tweets Aparna Sen. Chief Judicial Magistrate Surya Kant Tiwari passed the petition two months by local advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha.

The CJM had passed the order on August 20, accepting my petition upon the receipt of which an FIR was lodged today at the Sadar police station here,” Ojha said

The police said that the FIR has been lodged under Sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those relating to sedition, public nuisance, hurting religious feelings and insulting with an intent to provoke breach of peace.

The letter written by 49 eminent personalities said the lynching of Muslims, Dalits and other minorities must be stopped immediately. It also stressed that there was “no democracy without dissent”.
