10 Best Places to Visit in Warangal and Hanamkonda

If someone visiting Warangal asks me where they should start, I would not send them to just one place. Warangal and Hanamkonda have enough history, temples, lakes and old Kakatiya sites to fill a proper day or two.

The nice thing is that many of the main places are not very far from each other. You can see a lot without turning the trip into a long road journey.

1. Warangal Fort

Start with Warangal Fort if you want to understand why the city is so closely connected with the Kakatiyas. The famous Kakatiya Kala Thoranam and the stone remains make this one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.

2. Thousand Pillar Temple

The Thousand Pillar Temple in Hanamkonda is one of those places where the details matter more than the size. Look closely at the stone work and the large Nandi instead of rushing through the visit.

3. Bhadrakali Temple

Bhadrakali Temple sits beside the lake and gives you a very different atmosphere from the fort. It is also easy to combine with other Hanamkonda stops.

4. Bhadrakali Lake

If you have already visited the temple, spend a little time around the lake rather than immediately leaving. The surroundings are especially pleasant when the weather is good.

5. Ramappa Temple

Ramappa is outside the city, but it is one of the best additions to a Warangal trip. The Kakatiya architecture and carvings make the drive worthwhile.

6. Ramappa Lake

Pair the temple with Ramappa Lake instead of treating them as separate trips. It makes for a more relaxed half-day outing.

7. Kakatiya Rock Garden

This is an easy option if you are travelling with family and want something less formal than a heritage monument.

8. Pakhal Lake

For people who want a break from temples and old stone structures, Pakhal is a completely different side of the region. Give yourself enough time rather than trying to squeeze it into an hour.

9. Warangal’s old city areas

Some of the best local experiences are not ticketed attractions at all. The older parts of Warangal and Hanamkonda show how the modern city grew around its older landmarks.

10. A local food stop

Leave some time for food. A Warangal trip feels incomplete if the whole day becomes monument-to-monument sightseeing.

A simple plan

For one day, I would keep it simple: Thousand Pillar Temple → Bhadrakali Temple and lake → Warangal Fort → local lunch → another nearby stop.

For a second day, take the road towards Ramappa and make it a proper day trip.

Tourism details can change, so check the official Telangana Tourism information before travelling. The state tourism department lists Warangal Fort, Thousand Pillar Temple, Bhadrakali Temple and Ramappa among the area’s major attractions.
