The government at center and state have fought several elections, promising the construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya. The magnitude of concern showed for the birth-place of Lord Rama is inversely proportional to that of the birth-place of Lord Buddha. Sidharth Nagar is the birth-place of Lord Buddha and it is struggling for attention from the government.

Sidharth Nagar is a district in Uttar Pradesh. It is near the India-Nepal border. It is known for the ruins of Shakya Janapada is one of the most backward districts in India. This is the center of trafficking scams as the district shares its border with Nepal. Siddharth Nagar is also near to the city of “The CM” – Gorakhpur. It has a high rural population with agriculture being the source of bread for the families.

Siddharth Nagar is completely opposite to what the Siddhartha or Lord Buddha desired. Its citizens are living in trenches of poverty. The civic amenities are almost dysfunctional in the city. Black-outs are quite frequent in the city despite claims of electrification by our Prime Minister. Recently, two AK-47 rifles went missing from near the India-Nepal border. Siddharth Nagar is always in the headlines due to wrong reasons only.

Siddharth Nagar – Deflating Government’s claims

Despite the presence of BJP governments in the center and state, the development didn’t reach Siddharth Nagar. It deflates all the claims of Modi and Yogi governments. The frequent blackouts deflate the scheme of 100% electrification claim of the government. The uncontrolled trafficking of weapons and people gives a glimpse of law and order in the district. Siddharth Nagar also failed miserably in civic amenities. According to a story done by Amar Ujala, there are streets which sink in darkness post dust due to unavailability of street lights. Public toilets are only on paper with open defecation a dark reality. Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan hasn’t reached Siddharth Nagar yet. In spite of these flaws, the government is focussing on cattle safety as it is evident in the instructions given by the Deputy of District Magistrate.

Buddhists are not in high numbers and cannot be categorized as a vote-bank. Due to this, the government is treating the birth-place of their Lord Buddha in such a way. No promise ever made for the development of Siddharth Nagar. It could become one of the major tourist attraction due to its historical significance. Due to negligence that potential seems a lost cause.  The citizens of Siddharth Nagar have lost all hopes with the government and now they just want them to provide basic amenities. Even for that too, cows have become the priority.

It seems that the BJP is on a renaming spree not only in the state it rules but also where it hopes to form the government in the upcoming assembly elections. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now said that if Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in Telangana then Karimnagar will be renamed as Karipuram. He also proposed changing name of Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar.

Apart from the name-changing gimmick, he launched scathing attack on Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. Yogi said that KCR had not fulfilled any promises he made to the people of the state while PM Modi worked for providing welfare benefits to people without any discrimination. 

While replying to Yogi’s renaming proposal and allegations, K Chandrashekhar Rao asked in a recent India Today TV interview, “Will each home get a kilo of gold if Hyderabad’s name changes?”  Telangana’s caretaker chief minister dismissed the idea — renaming the state capital Bhagyanagar — as “stupidity”. 

Adityanath spoke at rallies in Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts yesterday. He brought up his own government’s work in Uttar Pradesh: “We have renamed Faizabad as Ayodhya and Allahabad as Prayagraj.”

The decision to rename Faizabad district, home to the city believed by millions to be the birthplace of the Hindu deity Ram, was announced last month. Allahabad was once known as Prayag; the Mughal emperor Akbar named it Illahabas, meaning “abode of God”, in 1575. The state cabinet approved the latest name change in October. 

Adityanath also accused the TRS, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Congress of promoting dynasty politics and said that if these parties form their government in the state then their sons or daughters will hold plum posts and ministries but only in BJP equal opportunities are provided to everyone.

“Only BJP can make a tea seller, the Prime Minister of this country,” Yogi added.

Calling out the Congress for its Muslim appeasement the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister accused them of depriving other communities of their basic rights, ANI reported.

Telangana Assembly elections are due on December 7. The counting of votes will take place on December 11.

It’s quite unpredictable when a BJP leader would alter the historical and mythological facts to its advantage. This time, it’s Yogi Adityanath.

While addressing a rally in Alwar’s Malpura assembly seat, he changed the origin of Hanuman to his advantage. Shifting the politics to religion, the UP CM also said that “all of us must have a resolution like Lord Hanuman”. The manipulation of mythology was done to please the voters as the village comes under SC/ST area. 

Candidate Ram Kishan is contesting elections from the constituency on behalf of the BJP. While requesting voters to vote for the party so they can bring about change, UP CM Adityanath said that we must have a ‘Bajrangi’ (one like Lord Hanuman) resolution in making the BJP candidate win in the area.

Praising Hanuman, Adityanath said that Hanuman himself is a resident of the forest, who is also a Dalit and is excluded from the society, as per the Indian folklore. He further said that the whole Indian community from “north to south and east to west”, is united, “thanks to Lord Hanuman”. 

This is not the first time that Adityanath has tried to use Hanuman to seek votes. Earlier this month too, he had claimed that he was a Dalit tribal as he sought to forge a direct connection with voters in tribal dominated state of Chhattisgarh.

“Hunuman sabse bade adivasi hain, vanvasi hain…,” Yogi had said in the state, adding, “When Lord Ram was on vanvaas, he helped the local tribals from the terror of demons. Just like Ram did in Treta Yug, the BJP is also aiming to bring Ram Rajya in the state.”

Linking religion with politics is a tested warfare of BJP. In a previous rally, he said that fight between BJP’s “Bajrangbali” (Lord Hanuman) and Congress’ “Ali” in Madhya Pradesh. The aim was to polarise voters from extreme sides. He is flamboyantly displaying and manipulating his Hindutva side to gain electoral advantage for BJP. This incident is not uncommon.

On the second day of Dharm Sabha at Varanasi, Ram Mandir issue was discussed at great length. They ultimately and unanimously rejected the proposal of Yogi Adityanath’s proposal to construct 221- metre statue at Ayodhya.

A setback to the ambitions Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh as the Dharm Sansad showed reluctance for the statue. They even termed it as ‘inappropriate’.
The seers unanimously said that installation of Lord Ram’s statue would be against their faith.
They also suggested that statues of great men and women had been put up across the country whereas Ram was their lord and a grand temple should be built at the disputed site so that ‘puja’ could be performed.
On Sunday, Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati hit out at the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), saying its Dharm Sabha in Ayodhya was purely political.

“We want Lord Ram temple should be built without disturbing communal harmony. We do not want any dispute with anyone. The Dharm Sabha in Ayodhya by the VHP was purely political. They want to build a memorial while we want to build a place for worship. Our existence is not based on hatred for Muslims. Those, who are organising Dharm Sabha in Ayodhya, are political people,” he said.

The Uttar Pradesh government has said it will install a 221-metre bronze statue of Lord Ram in Ayodhya. Unveiling details of the proposed structure, Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary (Information) Avanish Awasthi said the statue would be 151-metre high and would be put on a 50-metre high pedestal.

There would be a head cover (chhatra) for the grand statue that would be another 20 metre, taking the total height to 221 metres.

This article is a guide, including short notes on two important cases in recent times which taught the politicians how to flush their criminal records. 

Yahweh Yogi

In December 2017, Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, became immortal in the hearts of his MLAs. He initiated the process to withdraw 20,000 cases against MLAs. He termed them ‘politically motivated’ and tabled the Uttar Pradesh Criminal Law (Composition of Offences and Abatement of Trials) (Amendment) Bill, 2017. 

Maharashtra Government: Knights of the Round Table

Yogi is not the first one but the flamboyant one. Maharashtra Government passed a Government Resolution (GR) in August 2016. Due to GR, 41 cases withdrawn against the MLAs within the span of 15 months. This was the 4th attempt. Government setup a committee which comprised of Cabinet Ministers and Senior Bureaucrats. They cleared the Resolution in no time. Earlier, government attempted the Resolution in 2010, 2015 and in 2016. Senior cops and District Magistrate made up the committee at that time. So, the mission couldn’t be accomplished. 

The most interesting part is that these are the cases which are requested by the government to be dropped as there are meager evidences. Police denies clearly. A senior cop, who was a member of previous committee, has clearly stated that none of the police official gave green signal to the cases. Only MLAs were eager to pass the Resolution. 

Conclusion

Its clear as a crystal. Form the government, first. Divert the mind of the public and then brain-wash them. When the people are busy in fighting for senseless things like castes, religion, etc., pass such Acts in the Assembly. And, your criminal background is as clean as an angel (not Lucifer).

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister defended renaming of Allahabad by giving reference to mythological villains like ‘Ravan’ and ‘Duryodhan’. He said this while speaking in an event in Haridwar. 

When I changed the name of Allahabad, some people raised questions over it. Some also said what is there in the name. So, I said why didn’t their parents name them ‘Raavan’ and ‘Duryodhan’ in that case? In this country, the name holds a lot of significance.

He also said that most names in India are related to “Ram” and is widely used by scheduled castes. The name Ram “connects us with our glorious tradition.” 

Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the proposal on 16th October to change the name of Allahabad. Earlier, in 1575, Akbar changed the name of ‘Prayagraj’ to ‘Illahabad’ or ‘abode of God’. The Cabinet has rectified the mistake done by Akbar! A BJP state spokesperson gave this statement. 

Yogi also said that critics are not aware of the tradition and history of the country. 

Those who are opposing this are not aware of their history, culture and traditions and we can’t have hopes from them.

So, the name, which related to Islamic God is now the name of villain. Changing the name won’t do harm but it won’t do the welfare of the people either. The only thing which BJP might yield from this deed is polarizing the society and thus, fetching votes.

CCTV footage shows Apple store manager Vivek Tiwari was driving his car normally and without any suspicious activity before he was shot dead by a police constable. Later, Kalpana Tiwari, wife of the deceased, met CM Yogi for intervention in the matter. According to her latest statement, Yogi gave positive feedback and announced a hefty compensation. 

Vivek Tiwari was an Apple Store executive. He was dropping his colleague Sana to her home as it was around 1:00 AM. The vehicle was moving at normal speed without any suspicious activity. The patrolling constable was on his motorbike, shot Vivek dead and termed it as self-defense. 

The CCTV footage of the car — when it was minutes away from the police check point— makes it clear that the vehicle was moving at normal speed. The video, which is possession of News18, captures the car of Vivek Tiwari moving around 1:19am in Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow.

A second footage shows that the cops were riding their bike at normal speed at 1:24am without any trace of provocation from anywhere. 

Thus, the CCTV evidence trashed the police’s claim. In response to the lax attitude of police, UP law minister Brijesh Pathak said strict action will be initiated against the senior officers who tried to cover up the incident.

All the lax officers who tried to cover up the issue will also be facing action. I never expected our police could stoop down to such a level. The only eyewitness was also forced by the officials. Her statement and the FIR did not match at all. Some policemen were seen carrying the culprit in their hands, which is very sad and shocking.

Kalpana lodged a second FIR on Sunday. The FIR claims police officials at the crime scene did not allow Tiwari’s colleague Sana Khan from receiving or making calls. Kalpana also accused the cops of forcing Khan to sign on a blank paper. 

Meanwhile, Kalpana met CM Adityanath Yogi and asked for his intervention in the matter. He responded well and, according to Kalpana, all her demands were met. 

The state government later announced Rs. 25 lakh for the family and Rs. 5 lakh for Mr Tiwari’s children’s education; another Rs. 5 lakh has also been given for his elderly mother. 

All my demands have been met. I wanted strict action against the guilty, a job, accommodation, expenses for education of my daughters and my mother-in-law. The Chief Minister acceded to all my demands.

Fake encounters and burying evidences are not new. Our police has already mastered such ‘skills’. Its time that these skillful people be removed and create a sense of responsibility among the Police Force. In India, people become nervous in front of police and try to cover up the truth. They even try to avoid helping the victims as they don’t want to run into policeman’s grip. This is the image of police in India. This incident further strengthen the claim.

The UP Chief minister needs no introduction, people of U.P and people who know Yogi, very well know Yogi’s ideology, which screams hinduism in every move, be it speech, be it changing names of places to promote hinduism, be it his moves towards hinduism safety and his idea against Muslims. One question, The picture of Jinnah was not hung in the library today. Why the removal of picture of Jinnah was not a matter of concern to BJP? Is it because they wanted to use it as per their use as politicise it. Right after BJP in Uttar Pradesh came in power. Why wasn’t the picture not removed right after the independence? The University was founded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1875. The issue was raised after a letter was written by Satish Gautam (Lok Sabha MP from Aligarh). There are questions that rise here-
How did MP know about the Jinnah’s portrait? If it was so important, which actually is, Why did it take BJP MP so long to write the letter to AMU Vice-chancellor Tariq Mansoor.

We are protesting for the injustice, against the goons that tried to enter the peaceful campus armed and hailing ‘amu ke gaddaron ko, goli maaron saalon ko’ against the security who allowed it, against the district administration who failed to deliver turning a deaf ear to our demands. We protested like they never thought of, we peacefully protested and still are. They have shut down the internet service fearing the truth might reach people. Their IT cells are active now, ready to fill your mind with anger against us.’

The Question is if this is a political move, and it definitely looks like one! Is this the way of imposing culture and it’s effect on people when a person is in power. It is exactly the same. Since 1998 during his tenure as MP of Gorakhpur place were renamed as follows- Urdu Bazar to Hindi Bazar, Ali Nagar to Arya Nagar, Miya bazar to Maya Bazar, Islampur to Ishawarpur, Lahladpur yo Alahaladpr and Humayun Nagar to Hanuman Nagar. This may be right according for Hinduism and according to the chief minister.

Is this really the way to change and bring social change, I am not challenging your political understanding based on ideology of religion. But I can definitely challenge your decision which leads to social change this is not the way you’d be changing lives of people for good and better. Education it is, do not impose ideologies, people will decide better and rightly when they are able to. Which is only possible by education and opportunities. This is not why people have elected you for sure.

“You think by getting cylinders from outside you have saved lives and are a hero, we will see about that,” said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to young doctor Kafeel Khan during his visit to Baba Raghav Das hospital in his home constitutency Gorakhpur. This was after over 70 children had died because of a shortage of oxygen, crucial as medication in encephalitis cases.

The Savior

Dr. Kafeel shot into prominence due to his heroic act of arranging oxygen cylinders during the crisis. According to his brother Adeel, he was on leave on the day the oxygen supply dipped August 10). The moment he learnt about the crisis – from the paediatricians’ Whatsapp group – he sprung into action. He later arranged for around 250 cylinders each in the next two days.

It is an acknowledged fact among Gorakhpur’s medical community that had this doctor not taken the initiative, the toll would have been far higher. Within the days of the tragedy, he became a hero. His story of arranging and paying from his own pocket went viral on social media. Subsequently, in a dramatic turn of events in the following days, Kafeel was turned into the “villain” of the tragedy, with the coverage also taking a communal turn.

‘Savior’ became ‘Accused’

Khan has spent almost six months in jail, with his bail pleas being rejected. He was included in a FIR filed against nine persons by the state government. He was arrested later by the Special Task Force constituted for the purpose. This followed a high profile enquiry by the District Magistrate, and then subsequently by the Chief Secretary. Khan was being accused of not informing his seniors in time, of taking leave without proper permission, of running a private practice against norms.

Along with Dr.Kafeel, Dr. R.K. Mishra, the then principal of the medical college for “gaban” or embezzlement of government funds and medical negligence was also charged. The document invokes sections 409, 308 and 120b of the Indian Penal Code, which, if proved, could mean life imprisonment for the two.

Later on 24th November, Dr. Kafeel with attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy for the tragedy which occurred in August. However, he was cleared of charges of corruption and running a private clinic for lack of evidence.

Communal Angle

After the accusations against Kafeel, Adeel says the family has been vilified on account of their religion. “People called us ‘chor’, ‘ISI agents’, ‘Pakistani’, all sorts of abuses,” he says. Ayesha, Adeel’s wife, says that she discovered the pictures of the doctor, with his wife in her bridal attire, also surfaced on YouTube, along with the accusations.

The harassment by Police was to such extent that he had to surrender. “Police would come and sit at our home for hours in the night. My wife would get scared. My sister and her children were also getting caught in crossfire. It was only due to that pressure that he turned himself in,” recalls Adeel.

The Conclusion

Dr. Kafeel’s arrest proved two things. First, Adityanath’s ‘will teach you a lesson’ attitude is causing more harm than good. Second, the veil of bureaucracy is still quite opaque and with the advent of absolute power of BJP govt, it has metamorphosed into a smokescreen. It is both regretful and shameful that the only doctor who took initiative in that tragedy is behind the bars. And the worst – we all know the real story. But, we don’t have intent or courage or ‘time’ to ask the right questions.

A little spice of caste-based politics by SP-BSP changed the flavor of the ‘Fascist’ politics by BJP. SP’s victory in the UP bypolls was not just about the support from BSP alone. Tactical moves made by Akhilesh in the past fortnight made the difference.

Ignore Congress and Form new Alliances

Akhilesh decided to maintain a safe distance from Congress to keep those party workers in good humor. The workers were unhappy over their alliance for the 2017 assembly polls. Since Congress showed no interest in renewing the pact, SP decided to go solo.

Small parties with hardly any presence throughout the state gave active support to SP. The only uniting motive was to defeat BJP. Then Akhilesh turned to those small parties which had strong hold on castes in the region of Gorakhpur and Phulpur.

Akhilesh teamed up with the Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal (NISHAD) Party and Peace Party. He then fielded Pravin Nishad from Gorakhpur. Pravin is the son of NISHAD chief Sanjay Nishad. The move proved a masterstroke as the Nishad community is the largest sub-caste of OBC in the constituency, comprising 3.5 lakh or roughly 17% of the total electorate.

In Phulpur, the party fielded Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel to focus on the sizeable chunk of Patels in the region.

Support from BSP

It was not for the nothing that Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav went personally to pay his respects to ‘buaji’ for her support to Samajwadi candidates in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha bypolls.

Due to the choice of candidates and being burned by the same ambition, BSP actively supported SP quite easily. This served two purposes for BSP. First, making its presence felt and second, not relinquishing its strong-hold on lower castes.

Dalits in Uttar Pradesh, who traditionally supported Mayawati, voted in big numbers for Modi in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, only to find his Hindutva brigade going berserk against them. Dozens of cases of violence against Dalits at the hands of upper castes continue to be reported. Thus, Dalits turned against the BJP.

Is this the arrival of wind of change in India?

It is quite a tradition that the party with the most seats in UP serves as the ‘Kingmaker’ in Indian politics. Though its too early to say but still it is clear that now Fascist politics by BJP is not enough. The defeat might end the euphoria which surrounded BJP’s office after winning in North-East. With just 273 seats in the Lok Sabha,1 clear of the majority, there are chances of this end to come sooner.
