Gangster Vikas Dubey surrendered, not arrested

In the recent development, Gangster Vikas Dubey surrendered in Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh), sources from the UP police have confirmed. Dubey, who was on the run since last Thursday was taken in custody from near the Mahakal temple.

In the custody of the police after a dramatic chase that ended at a temple, Vikas Dubey shouted out “Main Vikas Dubey hoon, Kanpur wala!”  (I am Vikas Dubey, the one from Kanpur). The gangster, made the startling admission after running and hiding from the police across UP, Haryana, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Vikas Dubey managed to flee Uttar Pradesh via bus while the police officials were checking cars for the criminal.

Questions are being raised on the manner of the arrest and how the criminal showed up in Ujjain after he was sighted at a hotel in Faridabad, Haryana.

His closest aide Amar Dubey was killed in an encounter with cops on Wednesday. On the same day, CCTV footage from a hotel in Faridabad showed a masked man suspected to be Dubey. However, he fled the premises before the police could get him.

On Thursday, two more of his associated were killed in encounters with the police in UP. While one of the criminals was identified as Ranbir and shot dead in Etawah, the other was Dubey’s associate Prabhat Mishra who was taken in custody by the cops from Faridabad on Wednesday.

“We could not arrest Vikas Dubey and he surrendered in Ujjain. We could not arrest him even after such a huge incident and he kept travelling around. This should be investigated,” tweeted Amitabh Thakur, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer posted in Uttar Pradesh.
