Gone are those days when people would hide their complex relationship status in order to shield themselves from the societal notions of a perfect relationship. Shout-out to the Supreme Court of India for decriminalizing homosexuality under article 377 of the Indian Penal Code of the constitution of India.http://mavericktimes.in/news/judiciary/sc-decriminalises-section-377/3460/
This indeed is a mammoth step taken by the court Indicating a step forward to equal rights and equality for all the genders. Do you think our society has loosened its grip on the age-old rooted believes in same-sex marriage? On the one hand when we saw a ray of hope on this issue settling down, whereas, on the other hand, the pictures seem bleak.
Duttee Chand, an Indian professional sprinter and a current national champion in the women’s 100 metres event has confessed admitted about here homosexuality, she is in a relationship with her soulmate for a long time. “I have found someone who is my soulmate. I believe everyone should have the freedom to be with whoever they decide they want to be with”. The irony is our society who praises their women for their immense success and capability but fails to accept them when they threaten their societal structure. We have our India’s fastest woman facing the brunt of expulsion from her parents for revealing her relationship with the same sex. She is said to be facing a tough battle in the crucial game of acceptance.
This indeed is a clear cut sign that Indian parents regardless of any change in the law fails to accept the same-sex relationship when it comes to their own children. Such laws never received any acceptance from the Indian parent specifically when it’s a question of marriage and being in a relationship. But what according to you should be the alternative solution that we must come up with, in order to eradicate the notion of calling same-sex relationship or marriage a sign of omen for a society? I will leave it for you to decide.
