FIR against Rhea Chakraborty by K.K. Singh, Sushant Singh Rajput’s father

Late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s father filed an FIR on 25th July in Patna against Rhea Chakraborty, also an actor, over a month after he was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai.

Krishna Kishore Singh, Sushant’s father lodged a 6 page long FIR with Rajiv Nagar police station under various sections of the IPC including 306-abetments of suicide, 341- wrongful restraint, 342- wrongful containment, 380- theft in a dwelling house, 406- criminal breach of trust and 420- cheating.

Sushant’s family has alleged that Rhea financially and mentally has harassed him. The FIR is also against 5 others including Rhea’s family members. A team of 4 investigators from Patna have already left for Mumbai to probe the case. For the first time, Sushant’s family has been vocal about their accusation and are deliberately waiting for the Mumbai Police to investigate. The 34 years old actor on 14th June died by suicide and the police had reignited a huge debate on mental health.

Sushant’s Father in the FIR said, “My son was at the peak of his acting career till May 2019. During that period, Rhea and her relatives developed an acquaintance with my son, under a deliberate conspiracy, so that Rhea could establish herself in the film industry and with an eye on Sushant’s wealth…He was later made to rent a house that was haunted and that had an impact on my son.” The Rajput family also said that she used his credit cards during her Europe Trip. Sushant’s father added that Rhea and her family wanted to take away all the money that Sushant had. They shifted him from his own house to a resort near Mumbai airport where Rhea along with her family stayed. They told him that he has been hallucinating, has some mental illness and should consult a doctor immediately. “Sushant had become completely dependent on Rhea for his medication. He had decided that he will leave the industry and buy land in Coorg to do organic farming there, that’s when Rhea realised that he is of no use to her anymore, so she left him and blocked his number. It was very difficult for him to then function as she had all his medical reports and she knew when he had to eat which medicine. Followed by the suicide of his secretary Disha, one thing led to another which gave him more anxiety,” was further said in the FIR.

Although, Rhea had called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Sushant’s death tagging Home minister Amit Shah in a post on Instagram. She also said that she has been receiving rape and murder threats on social media regarding Sushant’s death. She only wanted to understand what prompted him to take this step, she added. She also posted being open about a bond that she shared with him.

The Maharashtra Government has ordered for an investigation regarding the professional rivalry along with his reported clinical depression. Around 40 people including Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Director-Producer), Aditya Chopra (Filmmaker), Mukesh Chhabra (Casting Director), Shekhar Kapoor (Filmmaker), Rajeev Masand (Film Critic), Mahesh Bhatt (Filmmaker) and others have recorded their statements.

Chirag Paswan the chief of Lok Janshakti Party plead to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray saying, “On behalf of every Bihari, I urge you to conduct a fair inquiry into the matter so that no talented person is victimised in the future due to factionalism and nepotism in Bollywood.”

After the FIR by Sushant’s Father Kangana Ranaut Tweeted saying, “Rhea and Sushant’s relationship was less than one year, Sushant put all his trust in her, he was frightened by the world outside wanted to leave, wanted to do anything to start a new life, he was already so broken when he met her, she took advantage of that..” Further, the tweet continued “..it was a prolonged harassment of years like Kangana explained one lobby finished his career and reputation and other lobby lynched him mentally and emotionally.. 2/2.”

The death of Sushant Singh Rajput has developed a fire among people regarding nepotism and favouritism in Bollywood. It isn’t a new phenomenon but has been aggravated because of this incident. It is wrong to support nepotism in any field be it politics, education or Bollywood. However, the sad truth is that nepotism exists in every field and is only considered to be awful when one doesn’t benefit from it.
